Susan Schaefer

Susan Schaefer Headshot

Susan Schaefer, CFRE, founded Resource Partners LLC with a commitment to integrity and client satisfaction.  More than 15 years later, those remain her guiding values.

Susan developed an early specialization in nonprofit program development and foundation relations.  She still works with many organizations as they look to propel their work with national funders.  Susan synthesizes clients’ programs with other organizational components, resulting in stronger business models, programming, messaging and income streams. And, because board service has always been a big part of her personal and professional life, Susan devotes a good deal of her time to strengthening boards of directors.

Prior to founding Resource Partners LLC, Susan served as National Director, Foundations at the United Negro College Fund. In that position, she helped lead the design and implementation of the $1 billion Gates Millennium Scholars Program, one of the largest private grants in history.

Susan co-authored Nonprofit Board Service for the GENIUS and co-edited The Nonprofit Consulting Playbook: Winning Strategies from 25 Leaders in the Field, published by CharityChannel Press. She was a contributing author for You and Your Nonprofit Board: Advice and Practical Tips from the Field’s Top Practitioners, Researchers, and Provocateurs.

She teaches a graduate course in fundraising at Johns Hopkins University.

Susan has served as a speaker and presenter for many organizations. Among them:

  • Alliance for Nonprofit Management
  • Association of Fundraising Professionals’ International Conference
  • BoardSource
  • Booz Allen Nonprofit Speaker Series
  • The Chronicle of Philanthropy
  • DCTV
  • Grants Professionals Association National Conference
  • National Nonprofit Leaders’ Conference
  • The Foundation Center

Susan holds a master’s degree in Not-for-Profit Management and a bachelor’s degree in English, both from the University of Maryland.
